The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is seeking an experienced, mission-driven leader to serve as Branch Chief of the Climate Data & Risk Reporting Branch (CDRRB) within the Industrial Strategies Division (ISD). This opportunity, classified as an Air Resources Supervisor II (ARS II), is ideal for a strategic thinker with deep knowledge of climate policy and/or corporate emissions accountability, and a passion for building new programs from the ground up.
As Branch Chief, you will oversee the development and implementation of two landmark climate initiatives Senate Bill (SB) 253 (Wiener, 2023), and SB 261 (Stern, 2023). These first-in-the-nation programs are designed to increase transparency and accelerate action in the corporate sector—ensuring that companies doing business in California are disclosing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate-related financial risks in a standardized, credible, and accessible way.
What You’ll Do:
In this high-impact role, you will lead a dynamic and growing team responsible for launching and administering these programs. Your leadership will guide efforts to:
• Develop and implement fee structures that support long-term program sustainability.
• Establish standardized, actionable reporting requirements and processes for both SB 253 and SB 261.
• Coordinate with public and private companies, climate disclosure experts, and other government agencies.
• Deliver robust public-facing communication and outreach materials.
• Develop strategies and resources to provide access to reporting and data.
• Support enforcement of the program.
• Provide strategic policy direction, brief executive leadership, and represent CARB at public and interagency forums.
Additionally, you will be mentoring and building a team, as well as fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment. Some travel may be required.
Join us at the forefront of climate leadership! This is more than a management role- this is a chance to build a team that will help drive change, shape emerging policy, and help ensure that California remains a global model for climate action.
