Overdose Prevention Student Lead

Overdose Prevention Lead Position  

Open to Undergraduates and Graduate Students  

Under the supervision of professional Health Education Staff, the Overdose Prevention Lead position facilitates continued program presentation and development of new Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) specific projects. All paid positions will be expected to present on AOD health education topics, meet one on one with peers and support all events and activities.   

Lead Responsibilities   

Facilitate peer education programs (emphasis on overdose prevention and AOD topics) in orientation programming, residence halls, classrooms, and other settings.   

Improve student health equity by reducing health disparities among marginalized populations.   

Build relationships with campus and community stakeholders.   

Develop, implement, and evaluate messaging strategies and content (social marketing campaigns, handouts, social media etc.).   

Plan, promote, execute, and evaluate outreach events.   

Required Skills  

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are core tenants of our CH&W programs; therefore, a successful applicant must demonstrate the desire to be inclusive and open to learn more about their own identities and biases and how they contribute to a positive and just society.    

Must have strong oral and written communication skills for presentations and outreach activities.   

Prior experience with navigating research journals and synthesizing research results for program development.   

Must have strong project management capabilities and can work autonomously and as part of a team.   

Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.   

Desire to promote equity in health access.   

Must be able to commit to the lead position starting early Spring 2025.   

Must possess and maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 or higher.

Preferred Skills  

Certified Peer Educator training.   

Background and/or experience in the content area: Alcohol and Other Drugs, overdose prevention.   

Students who have demonstrated experience in campus involvement and have participated in health promotion activities  

Public speaking experience with large audiences.   

Group/1:1 facilitation skill.   

Time Commitment  

Hours will be determined each quarter based on class schedule and will not exceed a maximum of 15 hours/week. Leads may also be asked to work after-hours, during academic breaks, and on weekends as projects/events occur.   

2024-2025 Academic Year  

Commitment of at least 10 hours weekly per quarter, must not exceed15 hours per week.   

These hours will be split between office hours, presenting to groups/class, and events.   

Compensation   

Current wage set to $16.50/hour for at least 10 hours per week; cannot exceed 15 hours per week during the academic year.
