The mission of the Light-Duty Testing Section "B" (LDTSB) is to produce and provide defensible compliant vehicle exhaust emissions test data in support of the California Air Resources Board’s vehicle testing programs. The LDTSB is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join a highly skilled and dedicated team of technical and professional staff to conduct emissions testing and research activities at CARB's Southern California Headquarters facility. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team responsible for supporting the Agency's vehicle testing programs in areas of certification, in-use compliance, regulatory development, enforcement, emissions inventory and research using four separate test cells for light- and medium-duty vehicles testing. The Air Pollution Specialist's (APS) essential duties include ensuring test equipment readiness, verifying that test procedures are followed throughout testing processes, and that the test data generated are defensible and compliant with governing regulations. The APS is responsible for providing technical guidance and assistance to project clients during test plan development, review, and execution ensuring that all testing requirements are satisfied. Additionally, the APS is expected to analyze situations, make decisions, and recommend effective courses of action to handle situations appropriately to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Working Conditions

 

This position is not currently eligible for telework. The incumbent will be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
  • Must be able to move/transport testing equipment weighting up to 30 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Safety footwear required when working on-site.
