About GT School

GT School is a school for gifted and highly capable K-8 students, online (GT Anywhere) and on campus in Georgetown, TX. Our Competitions team takes students to national academic championships in chess, math, robotics, speech and debate, and Bees & Bowls.

The role

Our Bees & Bowls program prepares students for History Bee & Bowl, Geography Bee, Science Bee, and quiz bowl events on the IAC and NAQT circuits. We're hiring a Program Assistant who will also work as an Assistant Coach. You'll keep the program running on schedule and help coach our students.

What you will do

  • Keep the program on track: own the calendar, chase deadlines with our lead coach and subject specialists, and make sure practice materials, rosters, and registrations are in on time
  • Assist at weekly virtual buzzer practices for elementary and middle school groups (run drills, moderate, keep score, track stats)
  • If you're Austin-based, run in-person practices when the lead coach is traveling
  • Keep each class's Google Classroom and practice platform up to date (materials, schedules, attendance)
  • Help students prepare for IAC online qualifying exams, regionals, and nationals, plus NAQT events
  • Send short progress updates to the Competitions team after practices and tournaments

What you will NOT do

  • Write question sets from scratch. You'll work from existing circuit materials
  • Teach general academics
  • Run a casual trivia club. This is a competitive program aiming for nationals

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Placed or won in academic competition: History Bee & Bowl (NHBB/IAC), Geography Bee, Science Bee, or NAQT/ACF/PACE quiz bowl, in high school or college
  • Good working knowledge of how IAC and/or NAQT events, formats, and qualification work
  • Very organized, with a track record of following through on deadlines
  • Comfortable working with students ages 8 to 14, in person and over video
  • Available up to 20 hours a week, including some evenings
  • Willing to complete fingerprinting and a background check

Nice to have

  • Experience coaching, tutoring, moderating, or staffing quiz bowl tournaments
  • Familiarity with online buzzer tools (QBReader, Protobowl, buzzin.live, NAQT Buzzword)
  • Lives in or near Austin / Georgetown, TX
  • Available for some spring tournament travel

How to apply

Send your resume plus a short note listing your strongest competition results (event, year, placement). We check results against public records, so please be specific.
