Tax Associate Intern
Arkansas Asset Builders is seeking motivated Accounting and/or Business students to support our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the 2027 tax filing season. VITA is an outreach program of the IRS that provides high-quality volunteer prepared tax returns to families and individuals who earn less than $70,000 per year, limited-English speaking households, or households with a disabled family member. Tax Associate Interns will increase their professional experience in tax accounting, social services, or public administration while providing consistent support for our tax site operations and tax return preparation.
Tax Associate interns will assist the VITA Site Manager with many aspects of tax site operations, including client intake, volunteer management, tax return preparation, quality reviews of returns, and administration of electronic tax filing. The position requires the use of computer equipment and software, professional conduct in interactions with volunteers and clients, and the application of high ethical standards and adherence to Internal Revenue Service policies, procedures, and guidelines. Completion of VITA volunteer training and IRS certification are prerequisite for hiring.
A successful applicant will have:
- Interest in learning more about income tax law and/or public administration
- Coursework in Accounting and/or Business Management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous management experience (events, organizations, etc.)
- Highly organized and self-motivated work ethic
- Comfort working with clients from diverse populations
- Excellent communication skills; able to translate complex ideas into relatable concepts
- Fluent Spanish speakers are especially encouraged to apply
VITA Tax Associates will work 8-10 hours per week at one or more tax site locations for the duration of the tax season (total of 100+ hours).
Conway location hours are Wednesday 12-3pm, Fridays 4-7pm, and Saturdays 9am-2pm. Little Rock location hours are Tuesdays 5-8pm and Saturdays 9am-12pm. Searcy location hours are Thursdays TBD and Saturdays 10am-2pm. Remote hours are available by approval only.
