About the Office
The Office of Assemblymember Vanessa Aronson is committed to providing responsive, accessible, and effective representation to the residents of New York’s 73rd Assembly District.
Our office helps constituents navigate government, connects residents with services and resources, advocates on their behalf with government agencies, and works closely with community organizations and local leaders to address issues affecting the district.
We are looking for a highly organized, resourceful, and compassionate individual who enjoys helping people and wants to make government work better for the people it serves.
Position Summary
The Constituent Services & Operations Manager is a primary point of contact between Assemblymember Aronson’s office and the residents of the 73rd Assembly District.
This person will manage constituent inquiries and casework, help residents navigate state and city agencies, oversee the day-to-day administrative operations of the district office, and help ensure that every person who contacts the office receives a timely and respectful response.
The Constituent Services & Operations Manager will also help the Assemblymember and senior staff stay informed about recurring constituent concerns and emerging issues throughout the district.
This is an in-person position based in the Manhattan District Office.
Responsibilities
Constituent Services
- Serve as a primary point of contact for constituents seeking assistance from the Assemblymember’s office.
- Respond to constituent inquiries by phone, email, and in person in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner.
- Manage constituent casework and assist residents in navigating state and city government agencies, programs, and services.
- Communicate and advocate on behalf of constituents with government agencies and other organizations to help resolve individual cases.
- Maintain accurate records of constituent inquiries and casework and ensure appropriate follow-up.
- Identify recurring constituent concerns and bring emerging district issues to the attention of senior staff and the Assemblymember.
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and community resources available to constituents.
- Protect constituent privacy and appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, neighborhood associations, tenant groups, schools, nonprofits, senior centers, government agencies, and other organizations serving District 73.
- Track community meetings, events, and issues throughout the district.
- Occasionally represent Assemblymember Aronson at community meetings and events.
- Assist with Mobile Office Hours and other constituent outreach programs throughout the district.
- Help identify opportunities for the office to proactively connect residents with government programs, services, and resources.
Office Operations
- Help manage the district office’s general email inbox and serve as a first line of response for incoming phone calls.
- Maintain systems for tracking correspondence, constituent requests, casework, community events, and follow-up.
- Assist with scheduling and maintaining the Assemblymember’s calendar in coordination with senior staff.
- Coordinate meetings with constituents, community organizations, government officials, and other stakeholders.
- Help ensure the district office is welcoming, organized, and responsive to visitors and callers.
- Manage and supervise interns and fellows and help ensure that their work supports the office’s constituent service and community engagement goals.
- Work with the Chief of Staff and other team members to develop efficient office procedures and improve systems as the needs of the office evolve.
- Assist with special projects and other office responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is highly organized, resourceful, empathetic, and committed to public service. They should enjoy interacting with people, be comfortable handling multiple priorities at once, and take satisfaction in helping residents solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in constituent services, government, social services, nonprofit work, community organizing, or another public-facing role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Ability to listen carefully, assess complicated situations, and identify practical next steps for constituents.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, projects, and deadlines simultaneously and follow through consistently.
- Knowledge of New York State and New York City government agencies, programs, and community resources is strongly preferred.
- Experience with scheduling, office administration, or case management systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently while communicating openly and collaborating effectively with the rest of the office.
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may change quickly.
- Commitment to responsive, accessible, and effective government.
- Familiarity with the neighborhoods and communities of Assembly District 73 is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $55,000–$65,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
This is primarily an in-person position based in the Manhattan District Office. Regular travel to Albany is not expected.
