Location: Durham, NC & surrounding areas
Schedule: 1 weekday practice + 1 Sunday practice + 1–2 tournaments per month (October-end of June)

About Shock Elite Academy

Shock Elite Academy is a competitive youth basketball and education organization focused on developing young athletes on and off the court. Through basketball, mentorship, and community engagement, we help players build confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and strong basketball fundamentals.

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 season, we're expanding our coaching staff and looking for passionate individuals who want to develop young athletes while gaining meaningful coaching and leadership experience.

Position Overview

Shock Elite coaches are responsible for helping athletes develop their basketball skills, basketball IQ, teamwork, confidence, and understanding of the game.

Coaches are also role models who help create a positive, competitive, and supportive environment for players and families.

We are hiring both Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches for elementary and middle school teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead organized practices focused on fundamentals, skills, teamwork, conditioning, and basketball IQ.
  • Coach games, scrimmages, and tournaments while managing rotations and making in-game adjustments.
  • Provide individual instruction and constructive player feedback.
  • Mentor athletes and promote discipline, confidence, leadership, respect, and teamwork.
  • Communicate professionally with players, parents, coaches, and organizational leadership.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Basketball Operations and coaching staff.
  • Participate in tryouts, player evaluations, coaching meetings, and team activities.

Qualifications

We're looking for coaches who demonstrate:

  • Strong basketball knowledge and leadership skills.
  • A genuine passion for working with youth athletes.
  • Ability to teach and communicate effectively with elementary and middle school players.
  • Reliability and strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to a positive, disciplined, and competitive team culture.
  • Availability for weekly practices and weekend tournaments.
  • Ability to complete required background screening and youth-safety training.

Previous coaching or competitive playing experience is preferred. AAU/travel basketball experience is a plus, but not required.

We welcome experienced coaches, former players, college athletes, college students, and individuals interested in building their coaching careers.

Coaching Opportunities

Head Coach — $750 Seasonal Stipend

Lead an assigned team throughout the season, including practice planning, player development, game preparation, team management, and communication with families.

Assistant Coach — $350 Seasonal Stipend

Support the Head Coach with practices, skill development, game preparation, player evaluations, and team management.

Season Commitment

Coaches should be prepared to participate in:

  • 1 weekday practice per week
  • 1 Sunday practice per week
  • 1–2 tournaments per month
  • Coaching meetings, tryouts, player evaluations, and organizational events as scheduled

Specific practice times, tournament dates, and team assignments will be communicated with selected coaches.
