Youth Basketball Coach – PHD Basketball

PHD Basketball is seeking energetic, dependable, and knowledgeable basketball coaches to join our growing program. This is a paid, part-time position for individuals who are passionate about teaching the game and making a positive impact on young athletes.

Our coaches are responsible for helping players improve their skills, basketball IQ, confidence, and understanding of team play. Just as importantly, they must reinforce the values that define PHD Basketball: hard work, accountability, sportsmanship, discipline, and a “We > Me” mentality.

Coaches may work with boys or girls at the elementary, middle school, or high school level through our AAU teams, travel programs, clinics, camps, and training sessions.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead organized, high-energy practices focused on skill development, basketball fundamentals, team concepts, and game preparation.
• Coach games and tournaments while providing clear instruction, constructive feedback, and positive leadership.
• Teach age-appropriate offensive and defensive concepts that align with the experience and developmental level of the team.
• Create a competitive, encouraging environment in which every player is challenged to improve.
• Promote PHD Basketball’s core values, including teamwork, effort, accountability, discipline, respect, and sportsmanship.
• Serve as a positive role model for players both on and off the court.
• Maintain control of practices and games through clear expectations and positive behavior management.
• Communicate professionally and consistently with PHD Basketball directors, fellow coaches, players, and families.
• Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled practices, games, tournaments, and team events.
• Monitor player safety and ensure that facilities and equipment are used appropriately.
• Collaborate with other PHD coaches to create consistency across teams and support the overall growth of the program.
• Follow all PHD Basketball policies, procedures, and coaching expectations.

Qualifications

• Previous basketball coaching or playing experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with children or teenagers in a coaching, teaching, training, camp, or mentoring role.
• Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and team concepts.
• Ability to teach the game clearly and adjust instruction based on players’ ages and skill levels.
• Dependable, organized, energetic, and able to communicate professionally.
• Ability to motivate players while holding them accountable in a positive and constructive manner.
• Willingness to work collaboratively within the PHD Basketball coaching staff.
• Availability during evenings and weekends for practices, games, and tournaments.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are preferred.
• Successful completion of any required background checks or coaching certifications.
