Local Food Systems Program Assistant - Lopez Island School District

This is an AmeriCorps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. To serve in AmeriCorps you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States. Please do not inquire if you do not meet these requirements.

The Local Food Systems Program Assistant will support our work to improve wellness for students and families through access to healthy local food. Duties include:

• Serve in classrooms, the garden, and the kitchen to support hands-on health and wellness education.
• Facilitate gardening and food preparation activities.
• Support family outreach; assist with equitable food distribution through the Family Resource Center.
• Help strengthen connections with local producers.

About Us

The Lopez Island Family Resource Center (LIFRC) helps families meet their basic needs. LIFRC offers a variety of programs and services to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Lopez Island School District currently runs a successful Garden-to-Cafeteria program. Students access hands-on learning in a 24,000 square foot production garden and orchard that grows food for the school cafeteria. The school district and LIFRC are partnering to create a more secure food system in our rural and remote community. The member will focus on education, food distribution, and outreach to families and partners. They will split their time between the school district and LIFRC. Candidates who are multilingual in Spanish and English are preferred. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and interviews in mid-late September.
