Behavioral Intervention Specialist

Position: Behavioral Intervention Specialist

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm, with flexibility to meet program needs
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides behavioral services that are compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements (NYCRR 633.16).
2. Performs initial, semiannual and annual functional behavioral assessments of individuals. Provides written recommendations to corresponding program staff.
3. Develops, reviews, and revises written behavior support plans. Develops, reviews, and revises behavior support plans with restrictive/intrusive interventions under the supervision of a licensed psychologist or licensed clinical social worker. Helps to ensure the integration, consistency and appropriateness of plans. Trains staff on how to implement the plans.
4. Develops, reviews, and revises written behavior medication monitoring plans. Helps to ensure the integration, consistency and appropriateness of plans, Trains staff on how to implement the plans.
5. Provides training to staff in managing difficult behaviors, and assists with crisis intervention.
6. Serves as a member of an individual’s treatment team, providing consultation relative to behavioral support needs of individuals, and participating in team meetings.
7. Provides individual and/or group instruction to individual’s supported, and works with staff to enhance the effectiveness of treatment.
8. Provides services at non-traditional business hours.
9. Documents individual’s progress/regress and insures completion of all record keeping tasks as per agency/program policies and procedures.
10. Assists management team in monitoring of service provisions.
11. Adheres to agency policies and procedures as stated with The Arc Wayne personal policies and Procedures.
12. Completes other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills & Competencies: 

Master’s degree from a program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology or applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions, and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development OR BCBA national board  certification and a Master’s degree in behavioral analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by the Office for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) OR a NYS license in mental health counseling .

Must possess a current, valid New York State driver’s license that meets the Agency driver standards.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:

One year experience working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavior support plans.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Must be able to alternate between sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting and crawling on a frequent basis throughout the day. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on an occasional to frequent basis. Must be able to read, write and communicate with adults on a frequent basis. Must possess sight and hearing within a normal range (with or without corrective devices). May be required to work both indoors and outdoors. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens, excessive noise, and cleaning chemicals. Will likely be exposed to challenging behaviors of individuals both verbal and physical.
