Ski School (Nordic) Instructor

Job Summary: The Loppet Foundation is seeking part-time cross country instructors for our Ski School lessons program. These lessons center on developing relationships with student(s), teaching ski techniques, and creating a passion for enjoying the activity of cross country skiing within Theodore Wirth Park. Ski School instructors lead both our group and private lessons to deliver a curriculum that focuses on building confidence in the skills needed to enjoy cross country skiing.
Lead Ski School Instructors are responsible for the following:
- Lead and co-lead 90-minute group and private Ski School lessons for a wide range of experience levels.
- Provide trail etiquette and layout orientation, and lead group introductions for new students.
- Manage learning areas for groups to practice drills in safe terrain to match the ability of students.
- Support the distribution of rental equipment to students from The Trailhead’s Adventure Shop.
- Lead the student(s) in practicing drills as outlined in the instruction curriculum.
- Provide an inclusive, equitable, and encouraging experience for all participants.
- Participate in ski school instructor meetings, debriefs, and training.
- Evaluate and communicate ability levels for lesson participants and offer training for junior instructors.
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
- 2+ years of experience teaching Cross Country skiing techniques.
- Cross Country Ski teaching certification from accredited skiing organizations (e.g. PSIA/CXC) preferred, but not required.
- Experience leading large, diverse lesson groups with a range of ability levels and backgrounds.
Ski School Instructors report to the Ski School Manager who reports to the Executive Director. Hourly wages range from $20 to $35 per hour depending on demonstrable experience and certifications.
