Eligibility Coordinator (Healthcare)

POSITION SUMMARY

Davis Street is seeking an Enrollment Specialist to support patient intake, insurance eligibility verification, appointment scheduling, and insurance coordination. This role works closely with patients, insurance companies, clinical staff, and community partners to ensure patients understand their coverage, co-pays, deductibles, sliding fee eligibility, and other financial responsibilities before receiving services.

  • Full-time position: 37.5 hours per week with excellent company-paid benefits
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete patient intake, insurance eligibility verification, and required documentation for clinic and counseling services.
  • Clearly explain insurance coverage, co-pays, deductibles, sliding fee eligibility, and other financial responsibilities to patients.
  • Ensure all required verifications are completed before appointments are scheduled and services are provided.
  • Check in patients and assist with scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling appointments as needed.
  • Help patients apply for and enroll in applicable local, state, and federal programs.
  • Contact insurance companies and use payer websites to verify eligibility, claims status, referrals, and authorizations.
  • Research and help resolve eligibility denials, rejected claims, and other payer-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, eligibility details, referrals, and authorization documentation.
  • Prepare weekly reports on intake and referral activity for the Claims Supervisor.
  • Communicate timely and accurate information to patients, staff, providers, insurance companies, and outside facilities.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to insurance coverage and eligibility questions from patients and clinical staff.
  • Participate in outreach events, staff training, meetings, and other administrative activities as assigned.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and follow all HIPAA requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Two years of related experience with insurance coverage, eligibility verification, medical billing guidelines, and payer websites preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and recordkeeping skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to solve problems and work both independently and as part of a team.
