Part-Time Personal Trainer
Part-Time Personal Trainer — Malden, MA
20 hours/week · $25/hour · Coaching only
The short version
You coach. That's the job.
Fixed hours you can plan a life around. Clients already on the books when you walk in. Nobody asking you to sell a package, work a split shift, or spend your first three months building a book of business for free.
Most part-time coaching gigs are unpredictable hours and clients you have to find yourself. This one isn't.
What you'd actually be doing
- Lead small-group strength cohorts (1:5) and group classes. Bio-mechanically sound work — squat, press, deadlift, and the accessory work that makes those go. We don't do sweaty entertainment.
- Know your people. Names, old injuries, what they're nervous about, when they've been gone a couple weeks. This is the part that actually matters to us.
- Coach the program we've built, and tell us when something in it isn't working for the person in front of you.
That's the whole role. No sales quota. No back-of-house project work. No "other duties as assigned."
Who this is for
This is a real part-time job, and we've designed it to stay that way — about 20 hours a week, on a schedule that doesn't move around on you.
That tends to work well if you're:
- Studying exercise science, kinesiology, or PT and want real reps with real people
- An established coach with your own clients or practice elsewhere
- Semi-retired from a bigger training role and still want to be on the floor
- Building toward something else and want steady, uncomplicated coaching hours while you do it
One note on conflicts: if you're currently coaching at another studio nearby, that's not automatically a problem — but tell us upfront so we can talk it through.
Logistics
- Location: Downtown Malden, MA — two blocks from Malden Center T (Orange Line + Commuter Rail). No car needed.
- Pay: $25/hour - 20 hours/week
- Hours: ~20/week, in consistent weekly blocks. Right now we most need weekday mornings to afternoons. We'll set your blocks together before you start.
What you get from us
- Clients handed to you. We do the marketing and the sales. You do the coaching.
- No sales quotas. Your success is measured by whether your clients get stronger and keep showing up.
- Paid education. Annual stipend for CEUs and certifications after 90 days.
- Real mentorship. You'll work directly with the owner. If you want to get better at this, we'll actually help.
- Free membership. Train here.
We're a small, growing studio. If this role grows into something bigger down the road, we'd be glad!
What we're looking for
- Certification: Current CPT and CPR/AED (or an exam already scheduled).
- Strength-first: You'd rather coach a good deadlift than run a cardio-HIIT playlist. You understand that "serious training" and "low ego" can coexist.
- Coachable: You take feedback and use it. Our trial session includes live coaching from us — how you take a correction matters more to us than whether you needed one.
- Warm: Our members get greeted by name, not scanned like a barcode. Beginners, parents, people coming back from injury, people who've never touched a barbell. You have to genuinely like that room.
- Human: You write and speak like a person, not an HR manual.
How to apply
Send your resume, plus short answers to these two:
- What else is on your plate right now — work, school, other clients, anything? We ask because fit matters here, not to rule you out.
- Tell us about a client you've personally coached (whether that's yourself, a friend, or a client). Where did they start, and where did you lead them?
What happens next: a short phone call, then a paid trial session coaching real members on our floor. You'll get paid for it either way. We'd rather see you coach than read about it.
We're moving quickly for the right person.
