This is a temporary, part-time (38 hours/week) position with benefits. The incumbent will have a workspace off-campus at 1455 E Tropicana Avenue, Suite 650 as well as work space/s at some of the CCSD schools.

General Description

The UNLV TRIO Educational Talent Search program assists middle school and high school students in the Clark County School District. Our primary objective is to outreach and provide services to low income/first generation students that have potential for post-secondary education. The outreach and services are provided during the school day anywhere between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm (depends on school site).  

Job Functions

• Assistance with college applications, finding scholarships, and completing financial aid applications

• Informing participants about careers options

• Providing academic advising and assessing individual learning styles

• Disseminating ACT/SAT information and reviewing high school graduation requirements

• Discussing the middle school to high school transition and identifying core classes

• Taking college tours

• Discussing financial literacy

• Conducting virtual presentations

• Documenting services and maintaining federally-mandated participant records

• Learning and adhering to project guidelines and meeting assigned objectives

• Working with an assigned caseload at specific CCSD schools in person and/or virtually

• Assisting with special projects

*Training and computer equipment to work at school sites and remotely will be provided.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum--Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university; Preferred--Major in Education or related field

Requirments: Ability to pass a CCSD background check, ability to drive and maintain a valid driver's license, excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail; advanced computer skills (Google Docs, Canvas, MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe Suite). 

Preferred: Excellent interpersonal skills; advanced analytical skills and attention to detail; advanced computer skills (Google Docs, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Suite); Preferred--Advising and counseling secondary students, working with low-income and first generation students, experience in/working knowledge of CCSD, and experience with remote services and content delivery through Canvas and Google platforms. Ability to speak Spanish is also preferred.
