APOYO is seeking candidates for a Youth Empowerment Program internship during the 2026 fall academic term. The 3-month internship starts on September 28. A minimum of 12 work hours per week is required. (For interns earning credit, three credit hours may be earned for the 12 hours. For each additional credit, the intern will add four hours to the weekly schedule. Interns can work up to 20 hours for five credits.) If seeking academic credit, interns must make arrangements with their faculty advisor to meet CWU academic requirements and submit all necessary paperwork by September 16. The internship offers a $1,000 stipend.
OVERVIEW
The intern will develop their skills through education on community empowerment, racial justice, political participation, activism, and career development. The intern will help design activities that engage youth in pursuing and achieving community empowerment and racial justice. Experience working with the Latinx community is preferred.
The ideal candidate is organized and creative, has excellent written and oral communication skills, is interested in encouraging continuing education and career exploration among high school students, and has a passion for engaging and building community solidarity among youth in Ellensburg.
ABOUT US
APOYO is a non-profit organization affiliated with Central Washington University since 1998. Its mission is to empower people by providing vital resources, advocacy, education, and opportunities to build community.
The IMPACTO Youth Empowerment Program supports Latinx youth in high school and college, as well as young adults, in Ellensburg, Washington. We provide transformative opportunities in leadership development, education, and community engagement. Grounded in principles of racial and social justice, we prepare young leaders to build equitable and thriving communities.
DUTIES
Responsibilities will include planning and recruitment for a youth program targeting high school and college students for the 2026-27 school year. Additional responsibilities include creating social media and communications content, maintaining press lists, planning events, communicating with partner organizations, stakeholders, and youth, assisting the program coordinator and Youth Advisory Crew, and handling other day-to-day office tasks. Responsibilities may change as the organization's needs change.

- The candidate must respond by noon on September 11. If the candidate does not respond by this time, then another candidate is offered the internship.
- NOTICE: If seeking academic credit, interns must find a faculty advisor and coordinate to meet CWU academic requirements. All paperwork must be submitted through the intern’s department by September 16. Failure to submit the required paperwork on time may result in a late fee from the university.
