Undergraduate Internship, Counseling Center

Position Summary

The purpose of the Undergraduate Internship position is to assist with the operation and implementation of mental-health programs, events, and services provided by the Counseling Center. The Intern will promote the mission of the Counseling Center in action and spirit.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand the role, scope-of-service, and policies of the Counseling Center 
  • Assist with front desk reception and other administrative tasks assigned by Center staff, including but not limited to Instagram maintenance, flyers, emails, etc.
  • Support outreach with students, faculty/staff, and community as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Assist in training of future Student Workers and Interns
  • Collaborate with Student Workers on programming and administrative tasks
  • Support existing Counseling Center programming or initiate new programming 

Work Hours 

  • In-person at the Counseling Center; some responsibilities may be performed remotely
  • Hours will be established by Intern in collaboration with supervisor
  • Weekly hours are flexible with Intern ensuring completion of required hours

Intern Qualifications/Skills

  • Pursuing a degree in Psychology, Education, or related health field
  • Experience and interest in the wellness/counseling field
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess good organizational skills and be efficient in multitasking
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Knowledge of technology utilized by center (Microsoft Office, Social Media)
  • Confidentiality

Supervision/Compensation

  • Direct report is to the Counseling Center
  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • To reach the required number of hours for the experience, paid assistants usually work 10 hours/week
