Position Summary

The Family Advocate provides compassionate, trauma-informed support to children and families impacted by child abuse. The Family Advocate serves as a consistent source of support throughout the child advocacy center process by assisting caregivers with resources, education, crisis support, and coordination of services. This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including law enforcement, Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS), prosecutors, mental health providers, and medical professionals to ensure children and families receive comprehensive care.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, dependable, and committed to supporting children and families through difficult circumstances while promoting safety, healing, and empowerment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide advocacy and support services to children and non-offending caregivers following allegations of abuse.
• Complete family needs assessments and assist families with identifying resources and support services.
• Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and education regarding the child advocacy center process.
• Assist families with referrals for counseling, medical services, financial assistance, transportation, and community resources.
• Maintain communication with families throughout the investigation and service process.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case coordination activities.
• Assist families with understanding court processes, victim rights, and available services.
• Provide follow-up communication and case management services as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policies, CAC standards, and confidentiality requirements.
• Support child-friendly, trauma-informed practices throughout all interactions.
• Assist with outreach activities, prevention education, and community awareness events as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, families, victims of trauma, or vulnerable populations.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Successful completion of background screening and required agency clearances.

Preferred:

• Experience working in a child advocacy center, victim services program, social services agency, or similar setting.
• Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, trauma-informed care, and victim advocacy.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
