Life Skills Trainer

Life Skills Trainer / Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Milwaukee County

Abide Supportive Living helps people with disabilities build practical daily living skills, confidence, and greater independence in their own homes and communities. This is a teaching and coaching position—not nursing, medication administration, or routine housekeeping.

What you will do:
• Teach and practice skills such as meal planning and cooking, budgeting, scheduling, household organization, communication, community navigation, safety, and self-advocacy.
• Follow each participant’s person-centered service plan and document services and progress accurately.
• Use modeling, prompting, coaching, and positive reinforcement, then reduce support as the person gains confidence.
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, participant rights, and health and safety standards.
• Complete incident reporting and communicate promptly with supervisors and care teams.
• Complete Abide orientation, participant-specific training, and required Wisconsin caregiver training before independent assignments.

Qualifications:
• At least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States.
• Patient, dependable, respectful, and committed to teaching independence.
• Able to complete Wisconsin caregiver background and eligibility checks.
• Able to communicate clearly and maintain timely documentation.
• Previous DSP, caregiver, CNA, coaching, education, behavioral-health, youth-work, or disability-services experience is helpful but not required.
• A driver license and insured vehicle are required only for assignments that involve driving. Non-driving assignments may be available.

Pay and schedule:
• $17–$19 per hour based on experience and assignment.
• Part-time and flexible day, evening, overnight, and weekend schedules based on participant needs.
• Foundational caregiver training is available through Wisconsin’s WisCaregiver/CDCP pathway; Abide also provides agency and participant-specific training.
