Field Hockey Video Rater
Uber AI Solutions is Uber’s marketplace connecting skilled freelancers with Generative AI researchers and product teams working on cutting-edge AI systems. We partner with independent contractors to support large-scale model evaluation, alignment, and quality initiatives.
We are seeking detail-oriented field hockey athletes, referees, coaches, journalists, and other professionals (with youth and/or collegiate officiating experience) to evaluate video analysis across a broad range of game scenarios. In this role, you will apply your extensive knowledge of field hockey rules to assess and annotate images and videos across multiple quality dimensions, helping train sports AI systems to meet high standards of accuracy and reliability.
This is a remote, contract-based position offering flexible hours and the opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI alignment and evaluation initiatives within the sports technology space.
What you'll work on
- Categorizing and labeling game footage (images or videos) using clear guidelines (like tagging player positioning, stick infractions, dangerous play, or specific fouls) and capturing additional project-specific metadata.
- Review broadcast sports videos to identify the exact start and end of every play.
- Segment each event using timestamps and select the correct event from the specific event list.
- Determine whether the event resulted in a scoring play and identify the primary player(s) involved.
- Extract key player information, including jersey number, jersey name (when visible), and team.
- Use broadcast commentary and on-screen graphics to help identify plays, players, teams, and game situations.
- Provide feedback on AI rule interpretations using structured rubrics, and flag uncertain or ambiguous plays for review.

- Duration: 1 week; successful contributors may be offered additional opportunities
- Location: Remote and flexible; must be located in the US or Canada.

What we are looking for
- Demonstrated experience officiating field hockey at the youth and/or collegiate level.
- Detail-oriented and efficient individuals with a deep understanding of field hockey rules, mechanics, and game flow.
- Strong comprehension skills and the ability to follow complex instructions for data labeling.
- Reliable independent contractors looking for a specialized, sports-focused tech engagement.
- English fluency is a must, but bilingual proficiency is a plus and may unlock specialized projects.
- Comfortably navigate and work within browser-based annotation tools, video playback operation, and web-based workflows.
- Read and interpret spreadsheets or CSV files as required by specific projects.
