JOB SUMMARY
The Union Well, Inc. is an auxiliary of Sacramento State and is a California 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. The corporation consists of the facility operations and programs of two buildings: The WELL (Recreation & Wellness Center) and The University Union. The WELL, totaling approximately 153,000 square feet, houses five fitness studios, a cardio suite, two fitness floors, a multi-activity court, three basketball courts, a rock-climbing wall, three racquetball courts, an indoor running track, locker rooms, an outdoor garden and a conference center. The WELL is also home to Student Health, Counseling and Wellness Services. The University Union facility, totaling approximately 220,000 square feet, currently houses food service operations, retail operations, multiple meeting and conference spaces, Associated Students, Inc., Student Organizations and Leadership offices, Women’s Resource Center, PRIDE Center, Pop-Up Shop, 20o2 at the UU, KSSU Student Radio, Public Information Desk, Games Room, Union Gallery, Terminal Lounge (music/video digital media), Student Computer Lounge, Relaxation Station, computer and printer workstations throughout the building, a University Police Service Center, and various open lounge spaces. The Manager of Member Experience drives member onboarding, engagement, and retention at the WELL. This role leads all member experience staff and ensures a secure, welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will balance strategic goal-setting with hands-on leadership to deliver a premier experience for all members and guests.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operations: Oversee daily operations of the front desk, lobby, and Engagement Center. Ensure strict facility access control, manage member check-ins, oversee waiver compliance, and maintain a safe, welcoming environment.
- Team Leadership & Student Development: Recruit, hire, schedule, train, and evaluate a team of approximately 40 part-time student employees. Foster an inclusive environment, implement learning objectives, and support staff recognition and all-staff training events.
- Software & Tech Optimization: Lead recruitment and retention program to increase membership conversions and to enhance engagement and participation. Serve as a primary admin/point of contact for membership management software, the mobile app, and the online member portal, driving digital optimization and data-driven program improvements.
- Financial Administration & Compliance: Ensure accurate daily processing of financial transactions (memberships, programs, retail) in compliance with PCI standards. Conduct membership eligibility audits and collaborate with IT and financial departments for streamlined student registrations and staff deprovisioning.
- Campus Collaboration & Risk Management: Partner with marketing, Student Health, and campus safety departments to resolve complex member issues, manage conduct, and run joint outreach initiatives. Assist the Assistant Director with annual budgeting, project planning, and policy enforcement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Public Relations, Communications, Sports and/or Recreation Management or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible supervisory or management experience, including but not limited to selecting, training, coordinating, and evaluating a diverse work force.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible experience in customer service or customer experience-related areas.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting and facilities management.
- Demonstrated ability to direct management goals, to facilitate change and to create and implement innovative programs.
- Demonstrated experience working with technology solutions that support front desk operations such as membership software, online reservation systems and/or data management.
- Demonstrated experience working with personal computer software applications including word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, internet, and email software, such as the programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
- Must be able to work a varying schedule that periodically includes evenings and weekends.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties in a dynamic work environment and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and community members.
- Must acquire CPR/AED and First Aid certification within three (3) months of employment. Certification must be kept current.
- Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to meet the established standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Business Management, Public Administration, Public Relations, Sports and/or Recreation Management or a closely related field.
- Progressively responsible experience working in a college or university environment, such as a Student Union or Recreation Center.
- Demonstrated progressively responsible experience managing the front lobby operations for a recreation center, gym, or private health club.
- Demonstrated experience in utilizing Innosoft Fusion software or a closely related member management software program.
- Experience working in a large, non-profit corporation.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time, exempt from overtime, benefited position, covered under the California Public Employees’ Retirement System. Continued employment in this position is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
The selected candidate must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the United States. University Enterprises, Inc. is not a sponsoring agency (i.e. H-1B Visa).
