Executive Function and CBT Therapist

Executive Function and CBT Therapist (Part-Time)

We are seeking a licensed mental health clinician for a part-time role that could become full-time later. The role is to provide Executive Function coaching for some clients, and CBT therapy for anxiety and depression for other clients. We have a clinically tested and research based method we have developed for executive function coaching. This approach blends practical executive function skill-building with a therapeutic approach grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We use a coaching model, delivered by licensed clinicians.

The coach helps clients identify the chronic and acute stressors that affect how they manage their time, tasks, materials, moods, and motivation. Sessions take place mostly virtually, but we will sometimes meet in our offices or do home visits, depending on the case and the client’s needs. The ideal candidate builds strong relationships quickly, looks closely at the specific nature of each person’s executive function struggles, teaches evidence-based and realistic strategies, and stays in regular communication with clients, families, and other professionals to provide holistic support. Related administrative work includes conducting intakes, managing scheduling and billing, maintaining a regular caseload of recurring sessions, finding and customizing intervention tools, and participating in ongoing supervision and training with the manager or director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet one-on-one with clients of varying ages, especially adolescents and adults, who primarily have diagnoses of ADHD.
  • Conduct intake assessments and identify executive functioning strengths and challenges.
  • Develop customized coaching or treatment plans based on client goals.
  • Provide individualized coaching or therapeutic sessions focused on time sense and management, task initiation and completion, prioritizing and planning, organization of physical and digital materials, self-monitoring and emotional regulation, flexible problem-solving, managing distractions and attention, realistic goal setting and accountability, effective communication, and academic and study skills.
  • Identify, teach, and reinforce practical systems, routines, and compensatory strategies tailored to each client’s specific and changing needs.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust the intervention course as needed.
  • Maintain timely and informative documentation through intake assessments, session notes, and progress reports.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents, educators, and other professionals.
  • Provide psychoeducation on executive function, ADHD, learning differences, anxiety, depression, and other relevant challenges.
  • Participate in ongoing supervision, training, and professional development.

Qualifications and Ideal Traits:

  • A master’s degree level clinician with an active license.
  • Strong executive function skills, including organization, time management, communication, and problem-solving, along with the ability to create practical systems.
  • Familiarity with a range of digital, physical, and other tools that support client productivity and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate with a variety of people and professionals.
  • Ability to manage a flexible schedule and respond promptly to digital communication.
  • Experience working with people who have executive function challenges, ADHD, learning differences, anxiety, and depression.
  • Experience working with students, college populations, neurodivergent individuals, and families.
  • Experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.

Position Details and Logistics:

  • Time commitment: Part-time, approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, combining client sessions with related preparation and administrative tasks.
  • Caseload: An ongoing caseload of roughly 5 to 15 clients of various ages.
  • Session structure: Session length and frequency vary, typically 30 to 90 minutes on a weekly or biweekly cycle.
  • Scheduling: Scheduling flexibility is important, including some afternoon, evening, or weekend meetings.
  • Setting: Sessions are conducted over video or in person, either at an office or in the client’s home. Some travel within New York City may be necessary.
  • Growth: There is potential to take on additional clients and hours, and to grow the role over time.
