Program Overview: Team Up AmeriCorps places AmeriCorps members at organizations throughout Southwest Colorado. While these members serve as part of a regional cohort and participate in regional cohort trainings and activities, they spend the majority of their term serving directly at a specific host site organization. Through collaborative service, Team Up AmeriCorps members develop their own professional skills and passions, expand effectiveness of southwest Colorado organizations, and ultimately support people to thrive. Team Up has been utilizing collective impact initiatives since 2015 to collaborate across sectors and promote communication towards common goals within rural Southwest Colorado communities.
While all Team Up AmeriCorps members gain experience and professional development during their term, some positions place an additional emphasis on developing members’ professional skills in a specific field during their Term of Service. These positions are part of Team Up AmeriCorps’ Workforce Track (WF). WF members may be required to meet additional qualifications and/or requirements to qualify for and complete these positions. WF members can expect to receive robust field-specific training and obtain field-specific credentials during their Term of Service. Upon successful completion, WF members will be equipped to begin their career and continue supporting people to thrive through their gain field-specific skills. The Youth Mental Health Corps (YMHC) is one of the programs within the Workforce Track.
YMHC members may provide programming aimed at supporting youth mental health in a variety of ways including enhancing student engagement in school, fostering stronger social connections among peers and students, alleviating family stress by offering a secure and enjoyable environment for students, and providing essential community support. During their service term, YMHC members must also be enrolled in a quality credential program, related to behavioral health, at an accredited college or university, serving populations within southwest Colorado. For this specific YMHC position, members must be enrolled in a graduate-level related program.
The Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center (4CRYC) is a nonprofit organization based in Durango, Colorado.
4CRYC works to build a brave, anti-discriminatory, non-judgemental, and visible space for community youth, families and allies in Southwest Colorado. 4CRYC wants to demystify stereotypes and empower through education. Rainbow Youth Center attendees and allies direct and develop youth-led educational, social, and emotionally supportive activities that will benefit overall well-being.

Service Position Summary: The 4CRYC is seeking 1-2 passionate, proactive, accountable individuals to serve as 4CRYC Youth Mental Health Corps AmeriCorps members. 4CRYC YMHC AC members must be committed to working with the Rainbow Youth community. Their service will focus on supporting Rainbow Youth Center attendees through expansion of individual client therapy and youth-specific programming, while also furthering their education in the behavioral health field. Service can be catered to the member’s specific graduate level internship requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: Team Up AmeriCorps members serve directly at their Host Site organization to develop, implement, and enhance programs, projects, and activities through direct and indirect service. Duties include:
Essential Functions (Primary Responsibilities):
- Site Specific duties:
- Actively meet the emotional, psychological or physical needs of Rainbow Youth Center attendees.
- Facilitate youth-specific programming. This includes a variety of clubs, field trips and off-site youth events.
- Provide case management, client documentation and case tracking.
- Facilitate program development & evaluation.
- Attend volunteer advocacy training.
- Attend at least 8 hours per year of ongoing training to maintain current best practice in providing victim advocacy, cultural awareness, field trends, and anti-discrimination.
- YMHC Duties:
- Serve with a multidisciplinary team in crisis-oriented situations and demonstrate excellent advocacy response with crisis support to victims of bullying, child abuse, sexual assault and other crimes (as well as to their friends and their family members).
- Facilitate Crime Victim Services Programs including Empower Pride and individual counseling when appropriate and ready
- Be enrolled in graduate level coursework
- Complete school’s internship requirements
- Share progress with AmeriCorps program staff
- Other Duties:
- Comply with 4CRYC volunteer handbook and program policies and procedures
- Must ensure Trauma Competencies as part of professional expectations such as; how it manifests in youth, adults, caregivers and how organizations can (re) traumatize, both youth and families and other employees.
- Notify Supervisor or Executive Director with high risk clients, client emergencies and/or if client situation is deteriorating.
- Compliance with confidentiality and mandatory reporting
- Track host site and AmeriCorps data
- Attend Team Up AmeriCorps regional trainings, cohort connection days, and Days of Service
Marginal Functions (Secondary Responsibilities):
- Attend ongoing training for all volunteer advocates for updated information, debriefing and ongoing support.
- Actively initiate and maintain relationships with RYC community partners to assist in addressing youth issues and response to needs of Rainbow Youth Center attendees.
- Support Team Up La Plata Community Collaboration in youth mental health and belonging efforts and with the Mental Health Action Team

Desired Qualifications:
- Ethic of national and community service and a strong desire to create positive change
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; computer literate
- High School Graduate required (GED accepted,)
- Candidates need to be enrolled and completing college graduate entering graduate level studies in Social Work or Counseling (LPC or MSW Candidates)
- Ability to pass criminal history check

- U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent resident status required
Term of Service - Time Commitment: This is a 900-hour national and community service position requiring approximately 20 hours/week. 20% of total hours, or approx. 15 hours/month (subject to change based on host site needs and member coursework) can be spent in documented graduate program coursework approved for the Youth Mental Health Corps. The position begins September 9, 2026 and ends August 31, 2027. Flexible hours are required, including occasional evening and weekend commitments. Service on the following dates is required:
- September 9-10: Team Up AmeriCorps Member Orientation
- September 10: Meet n’ Greet with all Members & Site Supervisors
- Jan 19: Dr. MLK Jr. Day Activity
- March 31: Farmworkers Day of Service
- April 9: Spring Convening of Members & Site Supervisors
- 2nd Wednesdays, monthly: Cohort Connections
- in-person in November, May, and August
- virtual in October, December, February, June and July
Note: Hours and dates may be adjusted based on the member's school and internship requirements.
Training and Support Provided: Team Up AmeriCorps members receive significant training and experience in community engagement, project implementation, leadership, diverse populations, and more. Up to 20% of total hours served may be spent in applicable, approved trainings. Members will be supervised and supported by 4CRYC’s Assistant Director Kat Pamplin (kat@rainbowyouthcenter.org), as well as by Team Up AmeriCorps program staff. The PY 26-27 cohort of Team Up AmeriCorps members serving throughout the region will also act as additional resources and support for each other.
Location and Service Conditions: This position is based at Four Corners Rainbow Youth Center located at 701 S Camino Del Rio, Suite 100 in Durango, CO. Additional other off-site engagement and partnership activities may be required.
Benefits:
- A living allowance of approx. $750 per pay period (twice per month). Taxes are deducted and the living allowance is distributed by direct deposit to the member’s bank account.
- An education award of $3,697.50 upon successful completion of term of service.

- It is possible to temporarily postpone repayment of qualified student loans through forbearance while serving as an AmeriCorps member
