POSITION:School Social Worker
Putnam Elementary School is seeking an innovative and motivated social worker for grades PreK - 1. The social worker uses a strong knowledge base, assessment techniques, and intervention skills to work directly with students and their families, coordinates efforts with special services staff/community agencies, serves as a liaison between the school and community, and supports the school and staff with social emotional learning skills and development.

Our district facilitates robust district-wide alignment and support across all three schools, ensuring each student's educational experience comprehensively prepares them for the real world.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct behavioral and social-emotional support to elementary school students within specialized special education programs.
- An active member of the crisis management and attendance teams. Supporting students and families as needs arise.
- Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers and a board certified behavioral analyst.
- Providing small group and one-on-one counseling services, reinforcing learning concepts and social emotional strategies to successfully access the learning environment.
- Support students with daily living skills, organization, coping strategies, and transitions between activities or settings.
- Collaborate closely with special education teachers, related service providers, and other school staff to foster a consistent and therapeutic learning environment.
- Help manage classroom dynamics and implement positive behavior strategies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- CT Certification 071 - School Social Worker, or eligibility for certification required
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, showing patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
START DATE: 2026-2027 School Year
RATE OF PAY:Based on contractual requirements
