Assistant Rowing Coach
A competitive rowing program in the greater Cleveland, Ohio area is seeking an Assistant Rowing Coach for the 2026–2027 school year. Applicants should possess a strong competitive rowing background, with experience at the high school varsity level or higher required. Collegiate rowing experience is strongly valued.
The program has experienced significant recent growth in both roster size and competitive performance. As a result, the ideal candidate will be adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented team environment.
Position Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and conducting daily rowing practices and training sessions
- Support athlete development both technically and competitively
- Promote a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture
- Help supervise athletes during practices, races, travel, and team events
- Work collaboratively with the head coach and coaching staff
- Contribute to maintaining athlete safety and adherence to program expectations
- Assist with rigging, equipment handling, and general boathouse operations as needed
- Support recruitment, retention, and development of athletes within the program
Preferred Qualifications & Characteristics
- Competitive rowing experience at the high school varsity, collegiate, or higher level
- Prior coaching experience within the sport of rowing preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively with student-athletes across a variety of experience levels
- Ability to collaborate within a coaching staff and remain flexible to differing coaching philosophies and approaches
- Comfortable working in a rapidly growing and evolving program environment
- Familiarity with rowing on the Cleveland/Cuyahoga River preferred
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to pass a background check and complete required training sessions and online certifications
Additional Information
- Seasonal and schedule demands may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and regattas
- A Coaching Stipend comes with this position, but would not support all of one’s life needs
