Job Description:

CPS PAL Supervisor I

This position will be filled at a Supervisor I or II

The position supervises a unit of caseworkers responsible for providing child protective services. The position oversees the unit in accordance with Child Protective Services Handbook, Title III of the Texas Family Code and Minimum Standards of child placing agencies. The position interacts routinely with clients, judges, attorneys, children, school personnel and all other aspects of the community.

Essential Job Functions:

Plans and manages unit operations to achieve project goals and objectives for services delivery by monitoring caseloads, consulting with staff on case issues, approving leave, and holding unit meetings. Responsible for managing staff who are responsible for providing coordination between program staff and contractors; identifying and developing resources for Preparation for Adult Living youth; providing follow-up services to emancipated youth; providing consultation/education to staff, caregivers and community groups and for monitoring Preparation for Adult Living contract service delivery and coordinating contract management staff. The position interacts routinely with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services staff, representatives from various organizations, and the public. Selects, manages, and develops staff through review of performance data, conferences, training, and performance appraisal. Interprets program policy and procedures to unit staff, other agency staff, and the public. Evaluates unit performance through case readings, computer reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure unit compliance with policy, procedure, and service control requirements. Develops and maintains effective working relationships between Child Protective Services staff, Child Welfare boards, the public, legal, medical, educational, and other community resources. Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations. Promotes, monitors, and ensures that respect is demonstrated for cultural diversity. Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

Knowledge of agency policies and procedures. Skill in effective verbal and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communication. Ability to operate a personal computer and use various software packages.

Initial Screening Criteria:


Child Protective Services Supervisor I:

Eighteen months of full-time experience in Child Protective Services* in Protective and Regulatory Services/Department of Human Services and completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification 

OR A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus eighteen months of full-time experience in Child Protective Services* or child placement services** in a public social services agency and completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification

OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Protective and Regulatory Services.


 


Child Protective Services Supervisor II: Completion of Phase I Child Protective Services Specialist Certification and completion of the Child Protective Services Supervisor Certification

OR Currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor II in Protective and Regulatory Services

OR Currently employed in a Protective and Regulatory Services management position in the Child Protective Services program at a level above Child Protective Services Supervisor AND prior experience as Child Protective Services Supervisor in Protective and Regulatory Services.


Additional Information:

This position can be hired either as a Supervisor I or II.
