Summary of Position:

This position represents the frontline implementation role of the Dementia in Tribal Communities grant. The Education Specialist/Community Health Worker (CHW) serves as the primary point of contact for community-based dementia education, outreach, and engagement. The incumbent will ensure that dementia education is not only medically accurate but also culturally safe, linguistically appropriate, and accessible for the Santo Domingo Pueblo community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or related field with at least (1) years of experience in community outreach, health promotion, screening, or elder/caregiver support; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct experience in community health work, caregiving education, or elder health outreach is preferred. Knowledge of dementia, brain health, or caregiving support is highly desirable, with willingness to participate in ongoing training.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with the ability to meet Santo Domingo Pueblo's liability insurance requirements
  • New Mexico Community Health Worker (CHW) certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background check and new hire drug screening
  • Preferred conversational or fluent Keres language skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to focus efforts on meeting Santo Domingo Pueblo goals.
  • Extended working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.
