Principal Trainer Senior - Converge Clinical Informatics

Summary:

The Principal Trainer Senior is a senior‑level Epic training leader responsible for the strategic design, delivery, and execution of training programs for assigned Epic application(s). This role independently manages the full training lifecycle, ensuring curricula, environments, and training strategies align with approved workflows, organizational objectives, and patient care standards. Serving as the training project lead for medium to large initiatives, go‑lives, and upgrades, the role owns training readiness, cross‑application coordination, and stakeholder communication. The Senior Principal Trainer also has advanced technical responsibility for Epic training environments, including Data Courier activities, Mitosis refreshes, and MST rebuild planning. As a senior resource, this role mentors other trainers, drives standardization and innovation, and contributes to continuous improvement across the Epic Training organization.

Responsibilities:


  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

  • Lead the end‑to‑end design, development, and delivery of Epic training programs for assigned application(s), ensuring alignment with approved workflows and patient care objectives.

  • Serve as the training project lead for medium to large initiatives, go‑lives, and system upgrades, owning training readiness, deliverables, timelines, and risk escalation.

  • Design and maintain role‑based, workflow‑driven curricula including classroom training, eLearning, simulations, job aids, Learning Home Dashboards, and Training Wheels.

  • Ensure all training content meets established instructional design standards, governance requirements, templates, and style guidelines.

  • Partner with Clinical Informatics, operational leaders, analysts, and subject matter experts to align training with validated workflows and system functionality.

  • Represent the training team in project meetings, operational forums, and application‑specific workgroups to assess training impact and coordinate cross‑application alignment.

  • Draft, manage, and route Flash communications for assigned initiatives, coordinating stakeholder review, approval, and publication using approved templates and AI‑enabled tools.

  • Maintain content accuracy through Nova Note review, workflow validation, testing, and continuous curriculum updates.

  • Oversee and maintain complex Epic training environments to support realistic, role‑based learning experiences.

  • Execute and coordinate advanced Epic training environment activities, including Data Courier transfers, Mitosis refreshes, and MST rebuild planning in partnership with leadership.

  • Independently troubleshoot and resolve moderate to advanced training environment, workflow, and application issues.

  • Serve as an escalation or backup resource for other Epic applications, contributing expertise as needed.

  • Provide clear, concise, and organized status reporting on training readiness, risks, and outcomes to project teams and leadership.

  • Deliver instructor‑led, virtual, and blended training, as well as onsite or remote support during go‑lives and optimization efforts.

  • Conduct job shadowing and gather end‑user feedback to inform system optimization and training improvements.

  • Mentor and support Principal Trainer I and II colleagues through coaching, material review, and modeling best practices.

  • Lead internal knowledge‑sharing sessions and skill‑building workshops to advance instructional design, technical proficiency, and adoption of new tools.

  • Advocate for innovative learning strategies and technologies that improve adoption, efficiency, and performance.

  • Contribute to standardization, quality improvement, and operational excellence across the Epic Training organization.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skill


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience required

  • Master's degree preferred

Experience


  • 6 years of Epic training experience required

  • 2 years of experience functioning at a Principal Trainer II level or equivalent required

  • 2 years of experience in project management, with a demonstrated track record fo leading complex training initiatives preferred

  • Experience leading training-related efforts during go-lives or optimization projects required

  • Proven track record of managing technical training environment tasks (e.g., DC, Mitosis, Data Courier, MST rebuild) required

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications


  • Epic certification/accreditation/self-proficiency in relevant application(s) required

  • Multiple certifications/accreditation/self-proficiencies in Epic applications preferred

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
