JOB GOAL:
Provide a comprehensive, developmental guidance and counseling program based on the ASCA National Model/Nebraska Model. The program serves all children to assist students in learning skills needed for academic success, personal/social and career development. School counselors plan, conduct, and supervise classroom lessons; provide responsive services to individuals and small groups; assist in student academic planning; work cooperatively with students, families, teachers, and staff; consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance children's educational, personal/social and career development; support other educational programs.
HIGH SCHOOL ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
1. Provide information and assistance to students singly or in groups on a variety of topics, to adolescent audiences in the areas of post high school placement, the world of work, military service, etc.
2. Provide supportive assistance to adolescents in such a way and to aid them in coping with their adjustments to school and the environments.
3. Collaborate on crisis situations involving adolescents, individually or in groups.
4. Assist certified and classified staff, along with specialists, in assessing student performance and in recommending appropriate grade/subject placements.
5. Develop student schedules to help meet college and career readiness goals.
6. Function as a member of student diagnostic teams to assist in the development of appropriate learning plans for students.
7. Assist the administration and interpretation of group and individual student achievement/aptitude testing programs.
8. Communicate effectively orally, electronically, and in writing with parents in regard to student progress/problems/needs/plans.
9. Assist in program evaluation on a regular basis and participate in appropriate in-service development
10. Assist in supervision and direction of students as assigned.
11. Communicate with administrators as to individual and group student needs.
12. Work with community resources addressing adolescent, individual and group needs.
