Job Summary: The School Social Worker helps to support the emotional, social and academic well-being of students.  They provide individual and group counseling to students dealing with a variety of personal issues and help them develop coping skills to manage these challenges.  They work with teachers, parents and administrators to develop individualized plans that help students succeed in school.  The school social worker is integral to creating a safe and supportive school environment, helping students succeed academically along with developing the emotional and social skills needed to thrive in life.  

Required Qualifications:

• Master of Social Work
• State approval as a school social worker

Desired Qualifications:

• Licensed Master of Social Work
• Experience with school-age students

Job Description:       

• Support general education students and students with all types of disabilities
• Development of functional behavior assessments and behavior plans
• Support to parents and teachers of students with above disabilities
• Evaluation of students suspected of having an emotional impairment
• Support school based Positive Behavior Intervention & Support system
• Collect and analyze behavior data

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• This position requires long periods of standing, sitting, and walking
• The position requires occasional lifting of supplies and movement of classroom furnishings during the course of the day
• Work may take place both indoors and outdoors, with the possibility of some travel to other schools or field trip locations

Work Year and Salary:  Per the MDMEA bargaining unit agreement  ($45,268 to $91,193) Commensurate with experience

Schedule:  Position begins 2026-2027 school year

• Anticipated start date of August, 2026
• 5 days/week
• 7-8 hours per day
