Youth Care Worker (Safe Station Shelter) – PRN (on-call): Required as needed, weekends, holidays, covering vacations and sick time

4 - 8-hour shifts per month required

Join the only agency in St. Joseph County focused on homeless youth, operating an emergency youth shelter open 24/7/365. YSB has been serving youth in our community for 50 years. Work along experienced, dedicated staff to provide a structured and nurturing environment for youth in crisis.

Safe Station is a hands-off restraint-free facility. YSB is looking for a multi-tasker who thrives in a fast-paced setting who has a passion for helping others. Work in a positive, caring environment where you will be making a difference!

  • Oversee daily operations and enforce all rules, policies and procedures of the shelter and its residents. Screen, assess and document incoming calls and completes intakes of residents.
  • Provides recreational programming and services, facilitates individual and group life skills development, and make referrals or contacts social agencies as needed.
  • Complete all necessary case notes, statistics and other documentation as required.
  • Stay current with trainings which include but are not limited to: CPR, CPI, 1st Aid, DCS reporting, Trauma Informed Care, etc…
  • High School Degree Required. Some experience is desired.
  • Ability to organize and implement plans, excellent oral & written communication skills. Work with diverse populations and the ability to handle crisis situations while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance at agency required level, and the ability to pass drug screen and comprehensive background checks.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
