Camp Krem Yosemite is a non-profit organization serving children, teens, and adults with a wide range of developmental disabilities. We are seeking caring, hardworking, enthusiastic Summer Camp Counselors to work in Ahwahnee, CA!

Mission: Camping Unlimited provides Summer and Year Round Programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. We provide a warm and supportive atmosphere of planned permissiveness that encourages community, recreation, education, fun, and adventure. Our programs foster independence, nurture responsibility, develop competence, and build lifelong friendships.
Position Details: Seasonal (summer camp), live-in position.
Reports to: Counselor Coordinators
Compensation: Room and board provided, as well as a stipend. Potential to become a part-time weekend position year-round.

Job Summary: Counselors are the primary caregivers for the campers and are responsible for the overall wellness, safety, and supervision of their campers. The counselors are also responsible for the general happiness of their campers and therefore, are required to assist their campers in participating in all camp activities fully and enthusiastically.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assure campers are properly supervised at all times;
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served;
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior;
- Be aware of and implement safety guidelines;
- Assist campers as needed with daily living skills such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, etc;
- Be alert to the needs of campers and assist them with personal and/or health problems and discuss with nurse, Counselor Coordinators, and/or Program Director when appropriate;
- Accompany campers to main program areas and supervise and engage camper participation in structured and unstructured activities;
- Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading as assigned;
- Use appropriate behavior management techniques as needed.
Other Job Duties:
- Communicate and interact effectively with fellow staff members, administrative staff and campers, regardless of ability, race, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression;
- Abide by all camp policies and procedures.
Physical Aspects of the Job:
- Able to read and write in English;
- Able to lift 50-75 pounds;
- Be comfortable living in small cabin groups/tents with 5 to 6 children or adults who have developmental disabilities alongside 2 to 3 other staff members;
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury);
- Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers;
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, stoop, walk long distances, hike;
- Ability to perform job responsibilities during daylight and nighttime hours;
- Be willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities’ and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals (bugs).
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Have enthusiasm and ability to work with children and adults with developmental disabilities in a rustic outdoor setting;
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain;
- Be adaptable, enthusiastic, compassionate, possess good judgment, and willing to learn;
- Undergo full criminal background check, and reference checks;
- Willingness to undergo regular COVID testing for the safety of our campers and staff.
