Certified Personal Trainer

We are seeking a passionate, motivated, Certified Personal Trainer to join our mission.

Position Summary:

The FIT Trainer will play a dual role in supporting our client's recovery journey. This individual will design and lead personalized fitness programs that promote physical health, stress relief, and personal empowerment while providing peer support. The role requires a strong understanding of the recovery process and the ability to create a safe, motivating, and trauma-informed fitness environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Fitness & Wellness:

  • Develop and implement individualized fitness plans tailored to clients' abilities, goals, and recovery needs.
  • Monitor and document clients' progress and provide encouragement and accountability.
  • Educate clients on the importance of physical health in recovery, including nutrition basics, sleep hygiene, and stress management.

Recovery Support:

  • Provide peer support grounded in lived experience or training, fostering hope and motivation in clients.
  • Participate in treatment planning with clinical staff to align fitness interventions with therapeutic goals.
  • Facilitate recovery-focused discussions or workshops on building routines, self-care, and overcoming barriers.
  • Uphold ethical boundaries and confidentiality at all times in accordance with HIPAA and recovery specialist guidelines.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with counselors, case managers, and medical staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and supervision sessions as required.
  • Assist Executive Director with quarterly reporting
  • Attend fundraising events

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Certified Personal Trainer (e.g., NASM, ACE, ISSA, NSCA, etc.)
  • CPR/AED Certification
  • Minimum 6 months of experience in fitness training and/or working in behavioral health or recovery settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain trauma-informed, nonjudgmental practices
  • Knowledge of and ability to navigate Microsoft Office applicationsĀ 

Preferred:

  • Certified Recovery Specialist or equivalent credential (e.g., CRS, Peer Recovery Specialist, CFRS, etc.) or working towards certification or willingness to train
  • Experience working in residential or outpatient treatment centers
  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorders, trauma, and behavioral interventions
  • Experience leading strength-based fitness sessions or wellness classes
  • Personal experience in recovery (if disclosed voluntarily)

Work Environment:

  • Residential treatment facilities
  • May include indoor and outdoor physical activity
  • Involves interacting with individuals in the early stages of recovery who may experience emotional or behavioral challenges
