Recreational Counselor

Position: Recreational Counselor/Direct Support Professional

Department: Lifelong Enrichment Program- DOHMH - 70200

Report to: Program Director

Location: 691 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY

Hours: Full Time – 35 hours per week; Day shift M-F

Salary Range : $36,400 to $36,400.00

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

A recreation counselor in our Lifelong Enrichment Program engages individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, ages 18 and older, in social and recreational activities/groups. They research resources, programs, and other services for individuals. They are responsible to complete and/or maintain required documentation to meet audit standards.

Responsibilities:

Engage participants in social, health/wellness, recreational, exploratory discussion and other activities/groups based on their interests onsite and community based.

Provide computer assisted learning and communication.

Obtain setting-up and cleaning-up refreshments and materials.

Complete required documentation to meet audit standards from DOHMH.

Assist with the location of resources, programs, and other services for individuals.

Create a monthly schedule of activities.

Create and implement artistic ideas for weekly sessions

Additional task maybe assigned

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required; Associates degree preferred

Previous experience or knowledge in the I/DD field is a plus

Work or life experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities is a plus

Must have good interpersonal and verbal communication skills including ability to problem-solve

Experience with developing and creating innovative recreation and other activities

Good interpersonal skills.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Able to do field work, escorting individuals on trips, as needed.

Must pass OPWDD fingerprinting and background check
