Health and Medical Science Teacher

POSITION DESCRIPTION
 
 
Title:                            Health and Medical Science Teacher – High School
 
Reports To:                 Principal
 
FLSA Status:              Exempt           
 
Summary:                   The Health Sciences Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in health sciences courses. This role involves creating an engaging and interactive learning environment, designing and implementing curriculum, and preparing students for careers in the health sector.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the district and state

2. Complies with school and School Board policies and regulations

3. Demonstrates mastery of the content area

4. Maintains discipline in the classroom to maximize learning 

5. Uses instructional and planning time effectively

6. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students
 
7. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops

8. Assumes responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities

9. Works cooperatively with the administration and collegial peers for the overall successful operation of the school

10. Develops and maintains a physical environment of the classroom conducive to effective learning.

11. Maintains accurate records and reports implemented by the administration

12. Demonstrates professional growth

13. Performs other duties as may be assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 
License certification as a Registered Nursing (RN) 
One year of long-term care experience as an RN of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of long-term care services. Experiences may include employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in, or supervision of nursing students in, a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care setting.
   
Have acceptable ratings in instances where there is prior teaching experience (either with this school system or other school systems)
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
Previous experience teaching health sciences or a related field is preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and instructional skills; ability to create engaging and effective learning experiences; proficiency in using educational technology.
 
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
 
Registered Nurse License and Valid Driver license

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
 
Ten-month employment. Salary to be determined by the School Board.
 
EVALUATION
 
Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
