Nursing Assistant Instructor (PT)
Position Summary
Grounded in OTECH’s values of Community, Learning, and Integrity, this position works under the direction of the Nursing Assistant Program Coordinator. The Nursing Assistant Instructor will be responsible for providing technical instruction for students enrolled in the Nursing Assistant program, including achieving programmatic and accrediting body goals for student completion, placement, and licensure. Course content areas may include primary patient, resident, and client care. This position works under the direction of the Nursing Assistant Coordinator.
Additional responsibilities include verifying student competencies, supporting student advisement and retention, maintaining accurate student records, and maintaining contact with area employers. Through collaboration, ethical practice, and a commitment to student success, the Nursing Assistant Instructor contributes to a strong learning community and prepares students for meaningful employment in the healthcare field.
Essential Functions
- Provide students with technical instruction in a safe, clean, and productive learning environment; maintain student records to include verification of attendance and competency completion.
- Meet programmatic and accrediting body goals for student completion, placement, and licensure.
- Assist students with job placement and applicable industry or state certifications/licenses in support of meeting placement and licensure/certification goals.
- Exemplify, motivate, and advise students in the areas of program and college expectations and appropriate work behavior and dress standards. Assist counselors, supervisor, and other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student success.
- Complete ongoing professional development to increase technical expertise and instructional skills.
- Interact in a positive and professional manner with students, coworkers, and college partners seeking win-win solutions.
- Complete assignments within established timelines, attend college team meetings as requested, and support programmatic accreditation.
- Work cooperatively within the college community. Actively serve on college teams as assigned and participate in programmatic and college-wide marketing activities.
Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Must have a current Utah licensure as a practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN).
- Must have two years of nursing experience, at least one of which is in the provision of long-term care services or caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
- Preference will be given to those individuals that have teaching experience.
- Preference will be given to those individuals who have completed a related associate or bachelor’s degree.
- Proficient in using computers, computer technology, and computer software related to position.
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals of all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Spanish speaking proficiency desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 40 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
- Risks found in the typical office and/or clinical setting, which is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office and clinical equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Additional Information
WORKING HOURS: The regular classroom hours are from 8am - 3 pm M-F and 4pm - 8pm M-Th. This position is 25-29 hours/week. The hours could include day time and evening hours. The expectation is to work 3 evenings/week.
