City Attorney Intern
This internship position is an eight-week standard length of assignment which provides assistance to various units in the department, including legal services, victim services, and supporting civil attorneys and prosecutors. Responsibilities require contact with the public, prosecutors, staff, court employees, management, and public officials. The internship is intended to give the intern experience and on-the-job training for work in public service and the criminal justice field. The City Attorney Intern will work with legal services, victim services, civil and criminal law, prosecution, or a combination thereof, described below.
You will be responsible for…
Legal Services Specialist:
- Assist in preparing a cases
- Process motions, responses, and legal forms
- Assist in preparing and sending discovery
Victim Services Assistant:
- Inform victims of their constitutional and statutory mandated rights within the criminal justice process
- Accompany victims to court proceedings
- Assist with orders of protections and injunctions against harassment
- Redact confidential information from police reports, body camera videos, etc
- Provide community resources to victims in need
Attorney Support:
- Assist the prosecutor with preparing for Court
- Accompany attorneys to various legal proceedings
- Attend meetings, city council study sessions, and litigation meetings with attorneys
What skills & experience you’ll bring to us
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university; junior or senior undergraduate student; major Pre-law, in social work, criminal justice, or other related public service major.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
