Performing Arts Specialist - Apachi Day Camp (Evanston)

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Performing Arts Specialist to support and guide young participants in a dynamic arts education environment. The ideal candidate will foster creativity, promote positive behavior, and ensure a safe, engaging experience for children involved in theater, dance, music, and other performing arts activities. This role involves working closely with children of various ages, implementing educational programs, and encouraging personal growth through artistic expression.

Key Dates:

Employee Orientation: June 8– 12, 2025 (Times TBD)

Camp Dates: June 15 – July 31, 2026 (No camp on June 19 & July 3)

Camp Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:45 PM daily, with two evening events (dates TBD)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage children during performing arts activities, including theater productions, dance classes, and musical performances.
  • Manage classroom settings to ensure a safe, inclusive, and organized environment that encourages participation.
  • Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote creativity and skill development.
  • Enforce behavior management strategies to maintain discipline and positive social interactions among participants.
  • Provide first aid when necessary and respond appropriately to emergencies or health concerns.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to plan special events, performances, and camp activities.
  • Support children with special needs by adapting activities and providing individualized assistance as needed.
  • Foster a nurturing environment that promotes childhood development, self-confidence, and teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding children's progress and behavior when required.

Skills

  • Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain order while encouraging creativity.
  • Experience working with children in settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, or childcare.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles and childhood development stages.
  • Ability to implement behavior management techniques effectively.
  • First aid certification or willingness to obtain certification prior to employment.
  • Experience with special education or working with children who have diverse learning needs is a plus.
  • Background in theater or performing arts is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with children, parents, and team members.
